Route 4
Route 4 And Plum Point Road
02/22/2022
Ok, wasn’t sure I would write and send this but decided, yeah, you should know about this as it literally rocked my socks off. It was really that close.
Literally one half of one second – kinda quick – damned short piece of time between here and literally not here.
If it had not been for the ambulance heading to Prince Frederick I would not have slowed for that one half of one second. No - I wouldn’t have and obviously there would be no email letter detailing what happened.
You see I had been at home working on website updates and was getting sort of antsy sitting and working – too damned much time sitting in front of this computer thing.
So I decided to just get up and go out – nowhere in particular – maybe Walmart check prices on a couple of things. Nothing special – don’t really need anything.
And so I drove down Plum Point Rd. to head to Prince Frederick. Came to the light at Route 4 – it had just changed to red for but whatever. I wasn’t in a rush for anything. But then the light turned green – quicker than the usual 2-3 minutes and I started out across the North bound lanes and as was the usual practice looked to the right and noticed the red lights flashing ambulance coming down the hill, headed to the hospital. I took my foot off the accelerator for a second thinking better give him time to get past where I would be. I was literally in the right lane of the North bound lane of Route 4. And as I had previously looked to the left and had seen the people heading North had stopped for the red light I continued and about to continue across the passing lane to get to the ramp where I would accelerate and merge with the Southbound lanes of Route.
It was absolutely a fortunate thing I hesitated on seeing that ambulance heading south because just as I began to continue this Ford Taurus drove right in front of me at well over the speed limit – obviously running the red light he (or she) was supposed to stop for. They did and had not. My car shuddered from the force of the wind as that car sped past me in front of me. One half second earlier and I would have been T-Boned and Lynn (who was at that time bowling at the bowling alley right there) would have heard the fucking slam bang crash and wondered what the hell was that . . . . . . . . it would have been me, her husband, your Dad being literally well, I think you can get the picture.
To say it shook me up is an understatement. First thought I had was, guess I have more to get done . . . . . . . . not my time, thank God.
Anyway it sure made me think how fragile life really is.
